Abstract: Puerperal hypocalcemia is a common and frequent pathology in cattle, but not in goats. This medical condition is characterized by calcium depletion after calving as a consequence of the onset of lactation, which has repercussions on the animal’s health, presenting neurological and motor clinical signs. In the present study, calcium levels 48 hours after calving were evaluated in 40 Majorera breed goats due to their high milk aptitude. Different ages and production systems (intensive and semi-intensive) were taken into consideration in order to evaluate if diet and age can be predisposing factors for the appearance of the disease.
