Introducción de caprinos en las islas Canarias y América: una visión desde punto de vista etnológico e histórico

Abstract

En la última década del siglo XV comenzó la colonización americana y terminó la conquista de las Islas Canarias. El carácter insular de paso obligatorio en las rutas colombinas hizo que ambos territorio se vincularan estrechamente y compartieran uno de los pilares básicos de la economía de aquella época: la ganadería. En este trabajo se presenta una revisión bibliográfica de carácter histórico y zootécnico de la cual se desprende que las razas caprinas de origen africano en Canarias tuvieron una importante influencia en la constitución del mosaico racial americano.

The last decade of the 15th century saw the beginning of the American colonisation and the end the conquest of the Canary Isles. The fact that the islands had to be passed on the routes which Columbus used meant that both territories became closely connected and shared one of the basic pillars of the economy of that time: livestock. In this work a bibliographical revision of historical and zootechnical characteristics is presented, which infers that the caprine breeds of African origin in the Canary Isles had an important influence in the constitution of the American racial mosaic.
