Biografía
Degree and PhD in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Córdoba (1992 and 1995, respectively). During the period of predoctoral training he carried out training in the areas of Pathological Anatomy and Physiology of Reproduction. In 1996 he joined the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria - ULPGC (Area of Parasitology) as an associate professor, where he has remained until now. To complement his training in Parasitology he performed an International Master in Tropical Parasitic Diseases (University of Valencia), an Expert in R&D Management (ULPGC) and an Expert in University Teaching (ULPGC). In 2002 he obtained the position of University Professor by the ULPGC (Area of Parasitology). Currently within the research group "Parasitology, Dermatology and Veterinary Biopathology", he has focused his line of work mainly on parasitic diseases of goats, although he has occasionally done work and collaborations on parasites of other species, for example, various reptiles and dromedaries. Within caprine parasitology, during his 23 years as a researcher at the ULPGC, he has worked mainly on gastrointestinal nematodes of goats, although in the last 14 years he has focused his research line more on caprine coccidiosis, covering different aspects of the disease, from epidemiology, pathology, immunology, therapeutics and control. During this period he has been main researcher in 3 projects, one of national scope and 2 regional ones, on this last line of investigation, which has allowed him the accomplishment of three doctoral theses in this field and the publication of the results in an important number of scientific journals of impact and scientific communications to congresses. At the same time, largely motivated by the course and development of these research projects, during this period he has established scientific contacts with some commercial companies (Esteve Veterinaria, Hipra, Elanco, Exopol) and with other national and international research groups. In relation to foreign collaborations, it is important to highlight the permanent collaboration for almost 12 years with Dr Carlos Hermosilla and Dr Anja Taubert from the Institute of Parasitology of the Justus Liebig University of Giessen, probably the most important worldwide research group on coccidiosis in ruminants. He is a reviewer of scientific journals with an index of impact such as Veterinary Parasitology, Regional Studies and Reports, Research in Veterinary Science, Parasitology Research, Parasites and Vectors, Small Ruminant Research, among others. He is also a graduate of the European College of Veterinary Parasitology (EVPC), and has supervised a total of 7 doctoral PhD theses.
