La recuperación del mito clásico de Circe en un cuento de Julio Cortázar y su adaptación al cine por Manuel Antín

Abstract

Este trabajo analiza la reinterpretación del mito de Circe en el cuento homónimo de Julio Cortázar que está incluido en Bestiario (1951). El autor eligió a su compatriota Manuel Antín para que realizara la adaptación cinematográfica del relato, y ambos trabajaron en el guion de Circe (1964). Desde los presupuestos de la mitocrítica fundada por Gilbert Durand y de la teoría de la transtextualidad de Gérard Genette, se lleva a cabo una comparación entre el cuento y la película. Este ha permitido analizar las similitudes y diferencias en la lectura del mito clásico que realizan ambos artistas, así como identificar las dificultades que conlleva trasladar y adaptar las complejas técnicas narrativas propias del cuento cortazariano a la gran pantalla. Ambas creaciones comparten la visión de la femme fatale del relato mítico. El cuento la adapta a otro contexto a partir de elementos simbólicos como las pócimas o el control sobre los animales. La película amplía, reduce o sustituye elementos del cuento, pero mantiene el tono, la atmósfera y la esencia del texto de partida.

This paper analyses the reinterpretation of the myth of Circe in Julio Cortázar’s short story of the same name, which is included in Bestiary [1951]. The author chose his compatriot Manuel Antín to make the film adaptation of the story and the two worked together on the screenplay of Circe (1964). Based on the assumptions of the mythocriticism founded by Gilbert Durand and Gérard Genette’s theory of transtextuality, a comparison is made between the story and the film, which has allowed us to analyse the similarities and differences in the reading of the classical myth by both artists, as well as to identify the difficulties involved in transferring and adapting the complex narrative techniques of the short story to the big screen. Both creations share the vision of the femme fatale with the mythical tale. The story adapts that character to another context by using symbolic elements such as potions and control over animals. The film expands, reduces or replaces elements of the story, but maintains the tone, atmosphere and essence of the original text.

Este artigo analisa a reinterpretação do mito de Circe no conto homónimo de Julio Cortázar, incluído em Bestiário [1951]. O autor escolheu o seu compatriota Manuel Antín para fazer a adaptação cinematográfica do conto e os dois trabalharam juntos no argumento de Circe (1964). Partindo dos pressupostos da mitocrítica fundada por Gilbert Durand e da teoria da transtextualidade de Gérard Genette, procede-se a uma comparação entre o conto e o filme, o que permitiu analisar as semelhanças e diferenças na leitura do mito clássico por ambos os artistas, bem como identificar as dificuldades de transposição e adaptação para o grande ecrã das complexas técnicas narrativas do conto. Ambas as criações partilham a visão da femme fatale do conto mítico. O conto adapta-a a outro contexto a partir de elementos simbólicos, como poções ou o controlo sobre os animais. O filme amplia, reduz ou substitui elementos do conto, mas mantém o tom, a atmosfera e a essência do texto original.
