Definitions around the concept of resilience have been changing over the years, and so have the different ways of introducing it into the school environment. Initially it was seen as a set of personality traits that helped some children overcome adversity, so programs for the promotion of these traits in school children were developed. With the next conceptual breakthrough, resilience was understood as a process, and more complex models that combined internal and external factors were created. Further research expansion brought in new perspectives and the key role of teachers as resilience tutors was pointed out. In recent proposals, as found in the holistic model of resilience, it is the educational community as a whole that gets involved in the design and promotion of specific resilience programs, tailored to both its uniqueness and its context.
