Abstract: Molar excess volumes of several methyl esters (from ethanoate to tetradecanoate) with five odd n-alkanes (from pentane to tridecane) were determined at 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure from the experimental densities and correlated by a suitable equation. The results for V-E are compared with those found in the literature and discussed in terms of the interactions between the groups intervening in the mixtures using the Flory and Nitta-Chao models. Only the Nitta-Chao model gives acceptable agreement with experiment when V-E > 0.
