Issue Date: | 2009 | Publisher: | 1548-0992 | Journal: | IEEE Latin America Transactions | Conference: | 13th Conference on Software Engineering and Databases | Abstract: | Streaming is a technique used to transmit information over the network so that the emission from the server, its communication along the network and downloading and processing in the client occurs simultaneously without the need to keep in the memory of the client. This technique is very effective for the transmission of multimedia information (video) and is very suitable for mobile phones because there is no need to store the video in its memory that is limited (including data storage is still quite limited in mobile phones latest generation). Although the transmission speed of wireless networks has increased significantly, this technique is very effective because it hides the network latency. Furthermore, the different wireless communication technologies used by mobile phones today (mainly Wireless Fidelity (WiFi), Bluetooth and 3G) are very likely to suffer physical disconnections causing intermittent loss of video streaming session every time a phone lost wireless coverage for a certain amount of time and forces it to reconnect manually, with the consequent loss of effectiveness of the streaming technique (that is lost due to the masking effects of network latency hiding). This paper shows a solution to automatic recover streams of video loss and the server streaming session creating a new mechanism based on proxies implemented with software agents in the platform named Java Agent Development Framework-Lightweight Extensible Agent Platform (JADE-LEAP). As far as our knowledge, this is the first time JADE-LEAP is used for video streaming on mobile phones. Moreover, experimental results obtained are very promising due to its effectiveness and relevance to the different case studies we have tested. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10553/53190 | ISSN: | 1548-0992 | DOI: | 10.1109/TLA.2009.5336643 | Source: | Ieee Latin America Transactions[ISSN 1548-0992],v. 7 (3), p. 410-417 |
