Abstract

The traditional approach to the solution of time-dependent problems using adaptive finite element methods has been revealed very useful to salve this kind of problems. However, in the tapies of structured meshes, if only a local refinement is used to approach the solution at each time .event, if the refinad areas changa with the time, the appearance of a large · number of nades creates a serious difficulty. Many of these nades -though necessary in any past time- are useless in the present moment.
