Cuarenta años de modernización sociodemográfica en Canarias: las estructuras de convivencia (1991-2021)

Abstract

En los últimos cuarenta años de historia, en Canarias se han originado unas profundas transformaciones sociodemográficas a consecuencia de la transición demográfica, la modernización social y el cambio copernicano de las tendencias migratorias y, como consecuencia de ello, una importante mutación en las pautas de convivencia. Los datos de población, hogares y viviendas del Censo de Población y Viviendas de España, desde 1991 a 2021, nos permiten realizar un estudio diacrónico de estas transformaciones mediante el uso de la estadística descriptiva y de la georreferenciación. Los resultados que se ofrecen revelan que la estructura de los hogares de Canarias, a lo largo del periodo estudiado, se incardinan en un marco de transformación social, en consonancia con la historia reciente del archipiélago. Además, guardan una intrínseca relación con la diferenciada estructura socioespacial de las islas, con la “urbanización” del medio rural y con el avance de los procesos de especialización turística, permitiéndonos reconocer un claro desequilibrio territorial. Por último, en la discusión de resultados y en las conclusiones de la investigación desarrollada, se hace hincapié en la importancia de analizar el contexto de la población y la convivencia en relación con la planificación y la política de vivienda.

In the last forty years of history, profound sociodemographic transformations have occurred in the Canary Islands because of the demographic transition, social modernization and the Copernican change in migration trends and, as a consequence, an important mutation in the patterns of coexistence The population, households and housing data from the Spanish Census of Population and Housing, from 1991 to 2021, allow us to carry out a diachronic study of these transformations through the use of descriptive statistics and georeferencing. The results offered reveal that the structure and typology of households in the Canary Islands, throughout the period studied, are part of a framework of social transformation, in line with the recent history of the archipelago. Furthermore, they have an intrinsic relationship with the differentiated socio-spatial structure of the islands, with the “urbanization” of the rural environment and with the advancement of tourism specialization, allowing us to recognize a clear territorial imbalance, Finally, in the discussion of results and conclusions of the research carried out, emphasis is placed on the importance of analysing the context of population and coexistence in relation to housing planning and policy.
