Resumen: We celebrate the extraordinary active research career of Professor Jacques Periaux (born in 1942 in France), on the occasion of his 80th anniversary, devoting a research life – joining Industry and A cademia (Dassault Aviation / Pole Scientifique University Pierre et Marie Curie, France / University of Jyvaskyla, Finland / International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering, Spain). Being the first President of the European Community on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences (ECCOMAS, www.eccomas.org), his research collaboration with University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria scientists started since the early 1990s and continued as UNESCO Chair position on Numerical Methods in Engineering at CIMNE/UPC since the 2000s. Since then, a continuous collaboration and work was stablished fruitfully until now. He has also established strong links between European and Chinese research communities in the field of aeronautics. This started in 1986 with the establishment of different research networks and collaborative projects with universities, research centers and industries from both Europe and China. Many of the students and co-workers of Prof. Periaux, appreciate the organization of this Technological Session dedicated to a mathematician who has obtained significant results in an international environment, with creative contributions in Numerical Analysis and the use of evolutionary algorithms in solving complex problems of interest to the industry.
